This early device (note the hand fabricated circuit board) is used to spin a cone (not shown) inside a petri dish to induce fluid shear stress on cells growing in culture. By using a microcontroler with nonvolatile memory the RPM of the cone (related to shear force) and time interval are user programmable. Six separate speeds and intervals can be programmed for 0-255 RPM and 0-255 minutes respectively. This sequence then can be looped 0-255 times. The box is made of plastic, and is sealed from the harsh environment of an incubator. |
