Computer Assistive Technology

TransAccess

Abstract: John and Jane will present case studies that touch upon various uses of assistive technology. They will demonstrate learning disability software, hardware solutions to control the computer cursor without the use of hands, voice recogntion software, as well other access options for persons with disabilities to use at home, work, or school.

Biosketches:

Jane joined TransAccess in 1999 and is the manager of Ergonomics and Assistive Technology Services. She has been performing evaluations and trainings for persons with various disabilities. She earned both her BA in Sociology and her MS in Occupational Therapy from San Jose State University. She has experience working with individuals with disabilities in a variety of settings, such as acute, assisted living, home health, and in the community. She has presented at various conferences such as the Center on Disabilities / CSUN, Disability Management Employer Coalition, California Secondary Transition Community, San Jose State University, and Samuel Merritt College.

John has a BA in English from UC Davis, a Master of Occupational Therapy from Samuel Merritt College, and certification as an Assistive Technology Practitioner (ATP) from the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA).

John's background is in helping students learn word processing, spreadsheets, and voice recognition software. He started with TransAccess in 1999 as a Computer Access Technology Specialist and then began managing the Access Technology Van, which brings assistive technology evaluations and trainings into the homes and workplace of people with disabilities.
