Below
are SAT 9/STAR testing schedules from selected Bay Area Schools in our survey.
Some schools complete their testing in three days, while others spread
the testing over an entire week.. What
remains consistent among our sample of five schedules is that testing is scheduled
in combination with classes. The
schedules have proven to be challenging to both students and teachers.
For example, teachers face the challenge of conducting meaningful instruction
due to limited time, i.e. 20 – 50 minute periods, and tired students.
However, the combined class/test schedule is necessary for schools
to receive state funding and for students to be relieved from taking an all-day
standardized test. This testing
schedule is especially strenuous on English Language Learners, as they do
not receive more time to read and answer the questions.
