Universal Design: A Student's
Perspective Laura C. Martini
Stanford University - Joint Program in Design
|
Abstract: "I will describe how the
special needs of family members have inspired me to incorporate universal
design into projects. I will show examples of how subtle changes - like which
way a fridge door opens, or the shape of a handle on a wheelbarrow - can make a
big difference in someone's life."
Biosketch: "I am a first year student
in Stanford's Joint Program in
Design who has a background in mechanical engineering. I have worked at
Apple and other small product design firms, and spent much of the last year
backpacking around Europe. I am interested in designing universally accessible
products that people of all abilities want to own, rather than accessible
products that people put up with because they have no other choice."
