Current Research Projects
Specific research projects address the following questions:
- What effects do motivation-related appraisal processes have on the elicitation and qualitative differentiation of emotion? According to the appraisal hypothesis of emotion, appraisals play a causal role in the elicitation of emotion. Different appraisal outcomes should thus determine whether or not an emotion is elicited and what kind of emotion is elicited. By experimentally manipulating appraisal outcomes and assessing emotional responding using psychophysiological measures, I conduct research to test this hypothesis.
- What effects do cognitive control processes have on the type of elicited emotion? Self-regulation represents a powerful tool to shape our responses to events we encounter. Just how malleable are emotional responses? Cognitive control processes can influence how we experience and express emotions. In this project, I am exploring how various cognitive processes can shape the type of elicited emotion.
