We would like to make the following amendments to Orthomyxoviridae information:
1. Influenza causes seasonal epidemics during the winter months of temperate climates. Thus, disease outbreaks occur in the Northern hemisphere for part of the year (December through January) and in the Southern hemisphere during a different period (June through August).

2. Although some strains of avian influenza cause asymptomatic infection in birds, the recent H5N1 subtype is highly lethal among bird populations.
