August Goodwin5, born August 13, 1934 in —, Missouri, the son of Roe Given Goodwin and Naomi Judith (Traudt) Goodwin4. After his mother’s death and father’s remarriage he was the stepson of Pearl Lureen (Cohen) Goodwin.

The Goodwins visited members of Gus’s maternal grandfather's family in Gridley, California in 1963. He lived on the 4000 block of Bayless Avenue, Lemoy, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri in 1967.

Gus died a few days after his thirty-third birthday, at 7:23 P.M., Aug. 18, 1967, due to a collision between a car and a truck on Interstate 55 in St. Louis. The accident occurred at 7:00 P.M. on rain-soaked pavement about 75 feet north of Weber Road, inside the St. Louis city limits. August was a passenger in the truck, driven by his brother Elmer Chappius, which was struck w hen the other vehicle, headed in the opposite direction, skidded across the median. August was pronounced dead at City Hospital. Chappius and the driver of the car were both hospitalized with injuries. August’s funeral was held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 22, 1967, at Morrell Funeral Home, 3710 N. Grand Boulevard, St. Louis. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis.
