>> As mentioned before, a group of us conducted an informal, nonscientific survey of Stanford students to determine their perception of IM. We also used a Likert scale to determine how students felt about IM. A few of the questions we asked were:

Do you use IM?
How often do you use IM?
What do you discuss on IM?
Who do you talk to on IM?
Are IMs less intimate than face-to-face interactions?
How often do you flirt on IM?
... etc.
