What is the grading breakdown?

  • Assignment 1 / OnRamp certification: 33%
  • Assignment 2: 33%
  • Attendance: 34%

Are there midterms or quizzes?

No. Your grade is based on the two assignments and attendance.

When and where is class?

  • Day/Time: Thursdays, 4:30 PM – 5:20 PM
  • Room: Hewlett Teaching Center 102
  • Duration: 8 weeks / 8 lectures (Winter 2026)

How do I access course materials?

What are the assignments and due dates?

Two applied MATLAB assignments (individual or small teams):

  • Assignment 1 due: February 23
  • Assignment 2 due: March 13

When will the assignments be released?

The assignments will be released at least 2 weeks prior to the due date, but usually much sooner.

What is the late policy?

  • Up to 72 hours late: 10% penalty, no justification needed.
  • For excused late submissions, request late days at least 24 hours before the deadline via the online form. Approved late days incur no penalty.

Is attendance required?

Yes. Attend at least four class sessions. Sign-in is collected each lecture. If you expect to miss more than four sessions, use the course form (linked from the website/Canvas) to explain the absences.

Can I work in a team?

Yes. Assignments may be done individually or in small teams (e.g., pairs/triads). Scope expectations scale with team size.

How do I request a regrade?

Submit a regrade request on Gradescope within one week of the grade release.

What are the prerequisites?

  • An introductory programming course (e.g., CS 101 / CS 106A / CS 193), and
  • An introductory linear algebra course (e.g., Math 51).

If you lack a programming background, complete MATLAB Onramp (~2 hours) and part of the Build MATLAB Proficiency Onramp (~4 hours).

Do I need a textbook?

No required textbook. Recommended references are listed on the home page (e.g., Numerical Computing with MATLAB by Cleve Moler).
