RYAN CATULLO

B.Sc. Mathematics, Stanford University

About Me

I am an undergraduate at Stanford University in the class of 2025 pursuing a B.Sc. in Mathematics. Here is my Resume and CV.

Interests

My main interests in mathematics include algebraic geometry and geometric group theory. I wrote an expository Iwasawa's Criterion and the Simplicity of $PSL_n(F)$ in Autumn 2021 on the simplicity of the projective special linear group of 2 by 2 matrices based on Keith Conrad's notes on Iwasawa's criterion.

For another writing in the major class, MATH 171, I wrote a paper on Fourier series titled Fourier series and the Gibbs Phenomenon where I discuss Dirichlet kernels, Fejer kernels, conditions for convergence, and the Gibbs phenomenon wherein the Fourier series overshoots the value of a piecewise continuous function at jump discontinuities.

I am also participating in a Directed Reading Project (DRP), where I read Rick Miranda's Riemann Surfaces and Algebraic Curves and discuss the content weekly with Stanford graduate student in mathematics Libby Taylor. I will give a presentation on Riemann manifolds at a colloquium in December 2021.
