| Southwest Road Trip /Leadfield mining town - Titus Canyon Road was built in 1926 to bring supplies from Beatty to promoter C. C. Julian's Western Lead Mine and the Leadfield camp. The ore at Leadfield looked good on the surface, but it petered out at depth. Julian strived to make sure his investors never knew the facts. He announced a free chartered train excursion from Los Angeles on March 15, 1926. "Come up or Shut up", he challenged. 340 curious people made the train and auto journey to Leadfiled. In the end 1200 people and hundreds of cars clustered in this rugged, isolated drainage. |
