Hydraphilia

nine time-lapse videos
48" x 60"
2009
edition of 2

In Greek mythology, the Hydra was a nine-headed monster that grew two heads whenever one was lopped off. This video is a microscopic time-lapsed view (30x) of the slime mold Physarum Polycephalum, the latter word Latin for "many-headed." This video evokes a love for the beauty and occasional grotesqueness of this many headed creature. This was my fourth project with slime mold.
