Developing new evaluation/assessment criteria for CALL

Background:  

Research question:  There is a need for new assessment criteria for CALL. There are two main reasons: (1) current approaches to the software evaluation tend to derive from the era of print materials or audiovisual materials that are suited to earlier understandings of Language Learning and approaches to language teaching and the development of teaching and learning materials; (2) there is evidence that CALL can involve qualitatively different and novel modes of learning that were not anticipated in earlier approaches to the development of materials and activities for CALL, and hence are not addressed in current approaches to the assessment of CALL.
