Power: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. Fear.
OFFENSES
Attacks: Lungs. High fever, malaise, chills, influenza-like symptoms. Diarrhea, dry non-productive cough, leading to serious pneumonia.
Outcome: Most recover on own. 10-20% develop complications needing intensive care, 5-10% require a mechanical respirator. Overall fatality 14-15%.
Speed: Incubation period 2-10 days.
DEFENSES
Vaccines: None.
Behavioral: Biosafety Levels 2 and 3. Isolation and quarantine of infected. Usage of surgical masks. Typical sanitary methods (i.e. frequent washing of hands). Immediate reporting critical in containing SARS CoV.
Treatment: Treat as if serious community-acquired atypical pneumonia. General supportive therapy. Possible anti-virals.
Game Action:
Opponent cannot leave chair while SARS CoV is played (Fear), unless an N95 Surgical Mask is played.
Although alcohol kills viruses, drinking alcohol will not prevent SARS.
