Using the various reference books discussed in Lectures 4 and 5, locate information about the two compounds below. For each compound, you must give the CAS Registry Number. What other information you find is optional, but you must locate each compound in at least five (5) of the sources I discussed in class, one of which must be either Beilstein or Gmelin, plus one Web source and one (1) print source NOT discussed in class. This last source should be a book, not a journal article. Use PEGASUS or MELVYL, or browsing of the stacks, or references in some book in which you’ve previously found the compound(s) to track them down. Describe clearly and thoroughly the type of information each source provides.
Note that the name I give for the compound may not always be the name the compound is listed under in every source. In some cases, you may need to find the molecular formula or the structure of the compound in order to use a given source—but remember that some sources will give you the keys you need to search other sources.
