ChemBioOffice Ultra Software: License codes for ChemBioOffice also expired recently. You must sign into CambridgeSoft’s web site to get the new code. Go to the Download and Install, and Reactivate sections of the ChemBioOffice web page for more details.

The first articles for new RSC Publishing journal Polymer Chemistry are now freely available online, with the inaugural issue due to follow early in 2010.

Polymer Chemistry publishes advances in polymer chemistry encompassing all aspects of synthetic and biological macromolecules, and related emerging areas. The first batch of articles covers a broad range of topics; from plastic electronics to click chemistry and polymers for biological applications by top authors including Thomas Davis, Stefan Hecht and Martina Stenzel.

Knovel’s new Nanotechnology collection focuses on nanoscale materials, nanostructure-dependent properties and phenomena data as well as fabrication and manufacturing techniques.

Nanotechnology is developing fast. Research predicts there will be $3 trillion worth of nanotechnology-enabled products by 2015. To invest appropriately and for research and development, companies need reliable information on the best practices of applications, fabrications, manufacturing and safety.

Companies are actively working on safety standards, risk management programs and researching the effects on human health and the environment.

LibX is a Firefox/Internet Explorer plugin that helps you conduct your research more quickly and efficiently. It allows you to:

• Search SearchWorks, Socrates, Stanford E-Journals, Google Scholar, and WorldCat from the toolbar
• Drag-and-drop citations onto a “magic button”, that will then pull up the article or book for you from Stanford-accessible database(s)
• For easier off-campus access to some sites, right-click to “reload via EZProxy”
• If you use Amazon.com, you can see if the library has a copy with a single click

Full-text PDF files of Stanford dissertations from 1989 to present are available to Stanford users from Current Research @ Stanford University, a Digital Library of Dissertations and Theses, hosted by UMI.

In order to maximize access, reduce the amount of time spent on security issues and on technical support, I want to migrate ALL of our seats to the web version by February 1, 2010.

If you are getting more “busy” signals when you try to login to use SciFinder, this is due to a reduction in the number of users available. The total number of simultaneous users for SciFinder has decreased from 11 to 8. Allocation of simultaneous seats for each interface is a set value. As a catalyst to encourage users to migrate from the client to the web, last week I changed the allocation of simultaneous users from 4 web/4 client to 5 web/3 client. I also reduced the inactivity timeout from 20 to 12 minutes.

The following services will be limited or unavailable during the winter break (Dec. 21 – Jan. 3):

Socrates and SearchWorks will be available. Request links for recalls, paging, etc. in Socrates will be available. However, paged materials will not be delivered until January 4, 2010. Recalled materials won’t be required to be returned until the first week of Winter Quarter classes.

There will be no Searches for Missing Items. Searches will resume on January 4, 2010.
