Railroaded

The camp in Hart’s photo was a construction camp located on top of the present Summit Tunnel.

 

The site is now occupied by the Sugar Bowl Academy, close to the Donner Ski Ranch and Sugar Bowl Ski Resort. What were once sites of dangerous labor have become places of recreation. The tunnels are no longer in use except by rock climbers who use them to gain access to the granite cliffs or sightseers who come for the spectacular views.
