Next, you will have to make a decision about the overall strategy you
plan to use to see that transfer is accomplished. Use the "RR & D
Center Technology Transfer Milestones" form in Section 5 to record
the decisions you make.
You have three options regarding strategy:.
- You may elect to involve a manufacturer during the course of the
project:
- - early in the course of the project, such as at the
conceptualization stage
- - after proof of concept has been demonstrated (either through a
simulation or with a feasibility prototype)
- - at an advanced prototype stage (either when a working
laboratory prototype is demonstrated with patients or when a
pre-production prototype is being developed that is appropriate for
evaluation).
- You may elect to use established information channels such as
professional meetings, open houses, or VA publications.
- You may elect to arrange for transfer on your own. Of course, this
option only exists if the VA has waived its interests and has not made
commitments to another organization.
Each of these strategies is discussed in the following pages.
