Example

You have just been asked by the Investigator to supply information about hospital supply firms that might be interested in working with the Center on a new project.

Based on a discussion with the Investigator, you are able to suggest two qualified firms, and you also provide the pros and cons for each. After a period of review, it appears that a Cooperative R & D Agreement would be an appropriate vehicle since the interactions will extend over a substantial part of the project and the company expresses interest in an exclusive license.

You draft the first version of the agreement, modeled after the sample provided by the VA Central Office. The document is reviewed by the Investigator, and a couple of corrections are made. It is then forwarded to the Center Director and, after approval by the General Counsel, joint research takes place.

At appropriate points in the project, you give similar assistance or advice to the Investigator on the preparation of a disclosure statement, patent application, and licensing.
