Clinical studies of the mechanisms responsible for orthopedic impairments
are the basis for developing new treatments that reduce the disability of
veterans and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare delivery by
VA clinicians.
The goal of this project is to determine the relationship
between muscle tensioning at surgery during tendon transfer and post-operative
hand impairment and function. We will propose specific guidelines for muscle
tensioning that will improve surgical outcomes.
