Poetry Reading with Nathaniel Mackey

Nathaniel Mackey is the author of three books of poetry, Eroding Witness
(University of Illinois Press, 1985), School of Udhra (City Lights Books,
1993) and Whatsaid Serif (City Lights Books, 1998), and the author of
an ongoing prose composition, From a Broken Bottle Traces of Perfume Still
Emanate, of which three volumes have been published. He is also editor
of the literary magazine Hambone and coeditor (with Art Lange) of the
anthology Moment's Notice: Jazz in Poetry and Prose (Coffee House Press,
1993). He teaches literature at the University of California at Santa
Cruz.

Discussion of New Generation: Poems from China Today with editor and translator
Wang Ping
Boardroom, (rm. 126), Margaret Jacks Hall
Wang Ping was born in Shanghai and graduated from Beijing University in
1984. In 1996 and 1997, she received a creative writing fellowship from
the NEA and New York Foundation for the Arts. Her previous works include
a novel American Visa, and three books of poetry-Foreign Devil, Of Flesh
and Spirit and the recent The Magic Whip (all from Coffee House Press).
Her nonfiction work Aching for Beauty: Footbinding in China won the Eugene
M. Kayden Award for Best Book in the Humanities. She currently teaches
creative writing in St. Paul, Minnesota at Macalester College.
