Terrestrial omphalus
According to legend, this site represents the navel of the world.
(Apparently it is a mobile belly button. Edmundo claims these stones have
been moved at least twice within his memory.)
Omphalus in situ
These large stones may have been rounded in the ocean. smoothed by the
action of water on rock.

This page is dedicated to Edmundo Edwards, his wife Mara,
and his daughter Alexandra who graciously hosted me during my
memorable stay on Easter Island.
Thanks also to his many family and friends who kept things ever-lively.
Edmundo's knowledge of the island is truly extraordinary surpassed only by his ability to weave an engaging tale.
With thanks also to Claudio Cristino, Patty Vargas, Susan
Anderson, Megan Fix, Bill Durham, John Rick, Rob Dunbar, and Zephyr
Frank.
