Lac Blanc, France
This picture was taken at Lac Blanc (White Lake) during a visit to Chamonix, France, in July, 2000. A moderate 1.5-hour hike to the lake from L'Index (reached by cable car followed by chair lift) offers a breathtaking panorama over much of the French Alps among which the famous Mont Blanc (White Mountain, 4807 meters) and La Mer de Glas (Sea of Ice) glacier.
