Galen describes two types of nerves: sensory and motor.
Digested food in the form of "natural spirits" are carried to the heart,
becoming "vital spirits,"and are then carried to the brain. Now "animal spirits,"
they travel out through the body's nerves, thought to be hollow tubes.
