Homework 1 - Help Videos

HW 1 is to make a Help Video that explains to a beginner how to approach one of the problems on the experimental server. Choose any problem you thought was interesting when you did it yourself for our SSEA class!

Your video should be short, but cover key insights or common bugs that are likely tripping up your audience. Assume that your audience is CS106A students who have been following along with relevant lecture and other experimental server problems, up to the point of your problem, but may still be struggling with the new challenges that your problem presents.

Tips:

  • You may work by yourself or in pairs.
  • Use a phone or laptop to make the video, whatever is most comfortable for you. If you need help accessing devices or learning the software to make your video, don't hesitate to ask our course staff (Cynthia and Selaine).
  • Remember to help your audience by modeling good programming practices for them, such as carefully reading the problem description and formulating a plan by writing comments before writing code. Also choose good function and variable names, as needed, and use other elements of good programming style.
  • Remember to be friendly and encouraging to your audience!
  • You don't need to use fancy effects/editing, but feel free to get creative if you have video-making skills.

Submit Your Video

Post your video somewhere such as YouTube or TikTok, then share the with your SSEA classmates on the Ed discussion forum! There will be a thread for everyone to share their videos!
