Abstract: The response of liquid argon to low-energy (~keV) nuclear recoils is important for determining the sensitivity to light WIMP dark matter and coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering. To date, the low-energy response of liquid argon has not been characterized. To study this regime, we built a small prototype dual-phase argon proportional scintillation counter (G/NARRLI) at LLNL.
In this presentation I discuss several calibration techniques that we developed as part of this effort. Additionally, I present results from the first measurement of nuclear recoil ionization yield in liquid argon, which is currently the lowest energy measurement of nuclear recoils in liquid argon.
