Ipek Can, Yasemin

Grad Status:
In the Field

Yasemin is mainly interested in exploring the implications of neoliberalization in the urban landscape where the effects of forced migration, inequality, as well as marginalization can be observed in relation to other significant political issues such as modernity, nationalism, secularism and gender. For her PhD at Stanford, she plans to study the diverse socio-political effects of several NGO projects on the urban periphery in Istanbul and address how different migrant groups in the periphery negotiate the “risk-managing” projects and the “self-responsibilizing” programs of several volunteer organizations. She completed two BA degrees in Bogazici University, respectively in Political Science and Sociology, and received her MA degree from the same university in Political Science.
