Process Behind Project 2 -
question

"Hey, should I go to the party?" "Hey, may I use your printer?" "Hey, can I get a small black coffee?" These are some common questions people may hear in their daily lives. By juxtaposing the common starters of these questions with familar sounds in an unfamiliar manner, I hoped to perhaps confuse listeners a bit and to bring awareness to the paradox that free will can be. Although we are independent human beings, many of our daily interactions are defined by asking for the permission of others. We certainly have free will, but we often use this will to ask others to help make and influence our own decisions. Essentially, I see free will as a question we ask others.

The sounds of the party, the coffee shop, and the coffee pouring are courtesy of freesound.org. I asked a dorm mate to print out three pieces of blank paper for the printing noise. I also dabbled in voice acting for the first time with the opening questions. I decided to insert the questions as cues before their corresponding audio to imitate a flow or form of conversation between sound and words. I wanted the assortment of elements to confuse listeners in the beginning but begin to make sense upon further listening.
