An excerpt on Suchitra Mitra from a
Hungarian website
(thanks to Dr. Laszlo Gutai of Intel for help with translation).
"... Suchitra Mitra, the outstanding singer,
studied Tagore music for 5 years from 1941 at the Santiniketan
University-ashram established by Tagore. She decided to devote her
whole life to the songs of Rabindranath: she has been singing and
teaching ever since. I hardly heard any music comparable to Suchitra
Mitra's, except her Tagore record issued in 1973. Her most
beautiful songs (e.g. "Tumi usar bindu", or the closing "Era parkey
apan karey") aptly evoke the miserable sadness and at the same time
the uncomparable beauty of our existence..."
