The Days and the Hours is a documentary meditation that offers an intimate view of the experience of homelessness.

Synopsis:
At a church in the middle of San Francisco, homeless people are allowed to sleep in the pews in the midst of daily services.  Filling row after row, over a hundred exhausted men and women find relief from filthy sidewalks and dangerous city shelters.  This simple story includes the voices of homeless people who describe their lives before they slipped off the tracks.  'The Days and the Hours' is a haiku that gives viewers a window into sanctuary.

Filmmakers’ Bios:
John Haptas and Kristine Samuelson have produced films together for almost twenty years.  Their documentary essays include Riding the Tiger; The World As We Know It; Empire of the Moon; and Wrong Place, Wrong Time, all of which have screened in festivals worldwide, including the Sundance Film Festival, San Francisco International Film Festival, Mannheim Film Festival, Mostra Internacional de Cine, Margaret Mead Film Festival, Stuttgart Filmwinter, and Ann Arbor Film Festival (complete list available upon request.)  Prior to their collaborative work, Samuelson made numerous other films, including Arthur and Lillie (co-producer/director), which was nominated for an Academy Award.  She is also a professor at Stanford University, where she directs both the Documentary Film and Video Graduate Program and the Film and Media Studies Program.  Haptas freelanced for many years as a location sound mixer on documentaries and now works as a documentary editor.
