The DYS numbers in red are said by Family Tree DNA to be the fastest changing markers-the most likely to mutate.
Cells that are colored brown/tan indicate markers with differences when compared to other participants. Blank cells (white) are markers not tested.

DNA for Family History
If you a male Ritter descended strictly through males from an ancestoral Ritter and would like to participate, please contact Donna Ritter Riley at drriley@prodigy.net or Phil Ritter at philr@stanford.edu. Females do not have y-chromosomes but might want to sponsor a close male Ritter relative.
Haplotypes and Haplogroups. The R1b and I1 modal (most common) haplotypes are included for comparison. Kits 2671, 2672, 8329, 9148, and 9149 differ from the most common R1b values by three (marked in tan on the R1b haplogroup line). Since DYS389_2 includes the values of DYS389_1, these are only two differences from the most common values. Kits 4640 and 6103727-2 differ from the modal values for I1 by 3 or 4 among the markers shown. These haplogroups represent the likely haplotype of ancient ancestors (8,000 or 12,000 years ago or more). In addition to telling us about our "deep" genealogy, they are useful for understanding if matches are accidental or not. For example, Kits 2671, 2672, 8329, 9148, and 9149 appear to belong to a very common haplogroup, but since they each share the same three differences from the modal values for that haplogroup, they are likely to be more recently related. Kit 7077 also shares those differences but adds one more value to DYS389_1 and _2, probably indicating a more recent mutation from the common ancestor.
Kits 6103727-1 and 4640 share 11 of 15 values, but only one of their departures from the modal values of haplogroup I1a is shared. Thus it is most likely that 6103727-1 and 7171 are only accidentally similar because of convergence or perhaps because they shared the same ancestral haplogroup, in which case any common ancestor would have occurred perhaps 6,000 to 8,000 years ago, long before the surname Ritter existed. The haplogroups shown in the "Haplo." column are estimates based on the markers used in these tests, but would need to be confirmed by looking at the exact unique mutations used to define world-wide haplogroups.
Haplogroup R was once throught by some to be characteristic of the original
modern-human settlers of
The ancestors of Haplogroup I are also said to have been
early Paleolithic hunter-gatherers (once claimed to be associated with the Gravettian Culture). Many ancient DNA recovered from bones of early Europeans has turned out to belong to various I or IJ branches. . Some have suggested that haplogroup I may descend
from an ice-age refuge population in the Balkins area.
The I haplotypes are especially common in
Halogroup E1b1a (formerly E3a) is an African haplogroup. Partcipant 9150 is African American but was suspected of having a white Ritter ancestor. The results confirmed his patrilineal ancestor was of African origin. The nearest matches to 9150 were from Gambia and Senegal in West Africa. Partipant 49728 was recently found to match 9150 and they share a common ancestor four genrations ago.
Kits ID numbers that begin with an N joined as part of the National Geographic sponsored Genographic Project. Several from this project have joined without yet furnishing lineage information. A few participants have been tested with Ancestry.com (formerly using the Relative Genetics lab), and other companies such as GeneTree and Genebase.
Three anonymous participants from the Sorenson project are also included but do not match anyone else. The are identified with "Sor," but no information about their ancestry is included.
