Dr.
Michelson is a Professor of Physics at Stanford University. His
research interests are in the field of high energy astrophysics,
particularly X-ray and gamma-ray observations and instrument development.
He is currently leading an international team (involving 18 institutions)
developing the next-generation orbiting high-energy gamma-ray observatory
known as the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST). Dr. Michelson
is a past member of the NASA Office of Space Science Structure and
Evolution of the Universe Subcommittee (SEUS), and served on the
Committee on Gravitational Physics of the National Research Council,
and the High-Energy Astrophysics Panel of the NRC Decadal Astronomy
