BACK
2nd Trip to St. Eustatius
Lydia Hailu
Jan 8-17, 2007
Previous Honeymoon didn't go as well as we expected: brand new underwater digital camera leaked on the first dive, I got the bends also on the first dive, two days later got a call from California that Dave's Mom has been taken ill - weird huh! Thank God, everything turned out well: Dave's Mom has recovered 100%, my bends wasn't severe enough to require a 6-hour chamber torture - thankfully, Statia has a decompression specialist onsite, and the waterproof case for my camera has since been replaced.

Dave was determined to go back, so we had a wonderful two-week honeymoon this month. The pictures and video will attest to how wonderful of a time we had in St. Eustatius.

If you're like us who travel to the Caribbean looking for islands that have a simple way of life, with rich history, hiking trails, a peaceful and serene atmosphere, friendly people, zero crime, and some of the best diving - then you will find Statia as the place for you. If you're looking for glitz, glamour, and exciting night life, forget St. Eustatius (fondly known by locals as Statia).

Statia (STAY-sha) is a memeber of the Dutch Antilles, located approximately 178mi southeast of Puerto Rico and 36mi south of St. Maarten. The waters of Staia is protected by Marine Park and restricted for fishing and anchoring. Also, The Quill is protected by STENAPA.
