| Awash / What can I say about the accommodations inside the park...well, we stayed in some Old Italian trailers with no indoor plumbing. Literally there was a hole in the ground and they placed a toilet bowl in it. They gave us water in buckets for flushing and for bathing as well. We were misled by the main hotel branch in Nazareth about 2hrs away. They told us that there is a lodge, the only lodge, within the park. Lodge my butt. The best thing about the place was the restaurant perched on the very rim of the Awash Gorge offering a spectacular view while dining outdoors on the patio. Camping by far is the best alternative, camping sites are located on the edge of the river above the falls, and large spreading trees provide not only shade but also shelter a wonderful collection of birds. Unfortunately, my parents are not the camping type. |
