Count on Learning!
For our class project in Curriculum Construction, Winter 2007, my group created a curriculum for a summer elementary mathematics course for STEP (Stanford Teacher Education Program) masters students. The focus of this course is on helping preservice teachers develop solid conceptual understanding of number and operations together with strategies for teaching the concepts. One of the most challenging aspects of this project was developing a common (amongst the four of us) theoretical framework and philosophy. We found that having this framework strengthened our focus and the content of the curriculum as a result.
