Linguistics 247: Seminar in Psycholinguistics: Sentence Comprehension
Course Requirements:
-
Readings: Each student will be responsible for
reading all the required readings, and for leading discussions
on selected readings.
-
Short Paper summaries: for the first 5 weeks
of the class you will be writing a short (less than 1 page)homework
on each of the papers you read. Each homework should
discuss 3 questions that the paper didn't answer,
or 3 suggestions that you have for the author, or
3 thoughts you have about extensions to the paper,
or any combination of the above
-
Related Research/Survey Paper:
A short survey paper which will act as the literature review
of your final paper.
The topic can be
any area of psycholinguistics of your choice.
The bibliography (list of papers
you plan to survey) is due to me on Feb 3 (week 5). The survey paper
is due on Feb 17 (week 7).
-
Final Project:
A term paper in the form of a grant proposal to carry out an
experimental project, including literature review, justification of
methods, and materials.
It may be done jointly or by yourself.
Advanced students who have had the Psych Practicum and
sufficient Statistics courses are encouraged to design projects
that they would actually want to carry out in future quarters.
-
