Stirrup Spout Vessel with Gourds
The Chavín cult spread throughout northern Peru via the exchange of small, portable objects. This vessel was found near the coastal valley site of Tembladera, a Chavín period cemetery where thousands of similar ceramic objects have been excavated. The gray and black stirrup-spout vessel shows two gourd-like appendages, and like most Chavín pottery depends heavily on surface texture in the portrayal of subjects. Click and drag to rotate object.
