Research Summary

My research focuses on exploring global issues at the intersection of environment, health and decision-making. I apply satellite remote sensing and advanced statistical techniques in novel ways to obtain new data for better understanding human-environmental systems.

Here are some questions that excite me:

  1. How do we measure the impacts of climate change on ecosystem diversity and human health?
  2. How can we use remote sensing to improve our scientific knowledge about such impacts?
  3. And how can we convey such knowledge to decision makers for effective mitigation and adaptation?
My current work looks at harmful algal blooms in global freshwater ecosystems (with focus in Lake Erie) and water fetching in Sub-Saharan Africa (with focus on Mozambique).
