My legal name is Vera Gribanov. When my family immigrated to the US, all of us were given the name "Gribanov", probably to be consistent with my father's name (Alexander Gribanov). Russian last names reflect gender agreement; had I stayed in Russia, I'd be "Gribanova".
It turns out linguists really like to use the appropriate gender suffix. I have no preference as to which name people use; my legal name has stayed the same, but "Gribanova" now appears as my name in publications.
