Statement of IT Architecture

IT Architecture is the physical and logical design, as well as the technical and functional characterization, of all interoperating computer systems and services across a defined domain. Attention is to the general, not the specific; with emphasis on strategic planning.

  • Peer review for implementation/engineering response to that strategic vision.
  • Guides strategic planning in the application of technology to information systems by drawing directly from institutional goals and policies.
  • Fosters interoperability for existing and future trends in technology.
  • Iterative and peer-reviewed process.
  •

An institutional architectural model and strategy is only as successful as its response to the institutional goals, requirements and policies.  The corollary to this statement is that an IT architectural plan/strategy will only be successful if the institutional goals, requirements and policies are well defined and broadly honored.
