Bookworm
by Brian Kunde
I worm into the books, to see
What weighty words will weigh on me:
The more I eat, the more I know,
So fatter I in learning grow,
Consuming all within the boards,
To get the knowledge it accords.
Alas! My thoughtful meal's devoured,
That so my gut and mind empowered!
How lucky humankind must be,
That learns without destroying the
Supply that feeds their eager brains
The fund of knowledge it contains.
They get their information free,
Without a single calorie,
While see what my digestion took:
I've sacrificed this precious book!
