Hard to believe, but after fifteen years of active participation in the mysteries of technical services, Stephen Volz has decided to give up the long commute and nights away from his family in order to pursue a dreamier lifestyle in the deepest reaches of Sonoma County. He will be available for quizzing, toasts, and bonhomie on Wednesday, August 28th from 3:30-5:00 at Koret Park.
Please join us for yet another bitter-sweet farewell...

RITS (Research & Instructional Technologies Support) and Access Services staff have reviewed current Meyer Library operations as they relate to the circulation of media materials housed in that Library. As a result, the Meyer Circulation/Reserves Division of Access Services will assume responsibility for all activities involved in the circulation of Meyer media materials. Julie Cain and her staff will also handle faculty requests for media course reserves. This past week, media materials were relocated from the Meyer second floor to reserves shelving behind the Meyer Loan Desk on the first floor. Viewing equipment will remain on Meyer's second floor; RITS staff will assist patrons in its use.

As part of the migration of Folio files to Z39.50 servers, a new version of EI/Compendex has been installed, with coverage back to 1986. The file does not differ substantially from the old EI/Compendex. The most significant differences are summarized in a "Help New EI" screen on Folio.
If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions about EI/Compendex, please contact Steve Gass in the Terman Engineering Library (sgass@sulmail; 5-1012).

Branner Library has had many staff changes over the summer. Our first was on July 19, when David Valenzuela left us to go to medical school at USC. David had been a half time staff member since September '95, handling a number of different technical processing duties. His efficient work habits helped enormously in our barcoding effort, and we are very grateful for the year he spent with us.
Our second change came with the resignation of Barbara Casaretto. Barb had worked diligently as our reserves, acquisitions, and circulation specialist since November 1991. She left us to devote more time to her family and other interests. Barb is a remarkably pleasant person to work with, and she will be missed.
Marina Wolf, who has been working half time since 1993 as the SERG administrative assistant, has been moved to full time. Adding to her SERG duties, she will take over circulation responsibilities and some technical processing for Branner. We welcome Marina to full time status!
Our fourth (and I hope last!) staff change is still to come. We have an open position at Branner for a half time reserves and acquistions specialist. The job posting is below, applications are currently being accepted.
