<- Thompson, Hunter S., 1937-2005.
Full name: Hunter Stockton Thompson. American reporter, author and iconoclast born in Louisville, Kentucky, best known for his extreme lifestyle and his creation of "Gonzo journalism," blending fact with fiction in a strongly subjective commentary on the subject covered. Cartoonist Gary Trudeau based his "Uncle Duke" character in the Doonesbury comic strip on Thompson.
  • <- Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. 1972.
Subtitled "A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream." A roman à clef fictionalizing two visits of the author to the titular city in spring 1971; initially appeared later that year as a two part serial in Rolling Stone magazine before book publication the next. Raoul Duke and his attorney Dr. Gonzo, ostensibly in Las Vegas to report on a motorcycle race, crawl the city in a drugged state, suffering hallucinations, destroying property, and lamenting the demise of the 1960s' counterculture. Adapted to film in 1998.
