Naipaul, V. S., 1932-2018.
Full name: Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul. British novelist of Indo-Trinidadian
ancestry, born in Chaguanas, Trinidad. Noted for his unapologetic treatment of the third
world venues of which he writers. Winner of the 1971 Booker Prize for In a Free State,
the 1983 Jerusalem Prize, and the 2001 Nobel Prize for Literature. At least four close
relatives are also authors.

An outsider's view of the post-colonial descent into dictatorship of an unnamed
African country, narrated by Salim, a Muslim of Indian ethnicity.

A House for Mr. Biswas. 1961.
The story of Mohun Biswas, an Indo-Trinidadian struggling to make something of
himself in early twentieth century Trinidad. Based in part on the life of Naipaul's own
father. Later adapted to the stage (as a musical) and to radio in 2006.
