The first time when I listened to the audio, all the words popped up in my mind: depressed, despaired, uncertain, dark, mysterious, seem-to-be-peaceful-but-more-is going-on-underneath-the-“peace”. Moreover, the singing in the audio makes me picture a young girl alone in an isolated house, which she couldn’t be able to get out of. A little psychiatric, as she might be, the girl sees scenes that are dark, distorted, or maybe even in reverse as how we might perceive them. Therefore, the video I created is the scenes I imagined what the girl would be seeing.
The beginning scene is rain dripping into the dark, as the way rainy days might seem like to the girl. Also, it tries to depict the loneliness and helplessness the girl feels that she is like the raindrops. The rain then suddenly reversed and the exposure of the scene was tuned that it became bright all in a sudden, showing the distortion in color and direction the girl perceives the rain.
In the following scenes, colors and speed are modified to different extents, trying to depict how a simple scene that we would consider as normal might seem different and hostile to her. The flashbacks and scenes of kids demonstrate the happiness of childhood; but since the colors are modified to less colorful, it shows that none of these could be experienced by her. The only thing that accompanies her is her imagination through a black-and-white lens. Finally, the video ends of a music box singing alone in the dark, until it slowly disappears. The last “joy” for the girl is gone.
