moonlight

multimedia poem

project description

moonlight is a multimedia poem describing a relationship between two people that builds and then quickly devolves, leaving one of them to suffer the heartbreak. The nature of the relationship is blurred, but the aftermath is incredibly difficult for the main character to deal with. The music playing throughout the video is a compilation of piano pieces named after "Moonlight" within classical repertoire: Beethoven's Sonata No. 14, Scriabin's Sonata-Fantasy No. 2, and Debussy's Clair de lune. The text in the video serves to mark chapters, give some dialogue, and also quotes directly from Scriabin's description of his own music that explores the versatility of the emotional connections people hold with the moon.

some creator notes: This piece proved harder to make than I had originally expected, and given more time and resources there are quite a few things I would like to have done differently. That said, I am quite proud of the product I have created. Acting in the video myself was not the original plan, but I gave it my all and hope that the emotions I wanted to convey came through. I also wish I had a better camera to film video on than just my phone, as I didn't capture dark scenes as clearly as I would have liked. But overall, I'm proud that this quarter of learning has culminated in this multimedia piece, my first of hopefully many more to come!
