Popup Blocker and Administrative Applications
XP Service Pack 2 includes a popup blocker for Internet Explorer that will be enabled by default. While this is a very useful feature for general web surfing it will cause problems for many of Stanford's web-based administrative applications such as Kronos, Oracle Financials and Peoplesoft. This page provides instructions for configuring the popup blocker so it will not interfere with these applications.
Configuring the Popup Blocker with the XP SP2 Configuration Tool
The easiest way to configure the popup blocker is to run the XP SP2 Configuration Tool. The tool places all Stanford sites in the Internet Explorer "Intranet" security zone and making sure the Security Level for that zone is at the default level of "Medium-Low."
If the tool warns you that your Security Level for the Intranet Zone is not set correctly you can adjust it as follows:
- Go to the Tools menu in Internet Explorer and choose Internet Options.

- Click on the Security tab at the top of the windows and then on the Local intranet icon. If the security level is anything other than Medium-Low click the Default
Level button. It should now be set an Medium-Low.

Manually Configuring the Popup Blocker for Stanford Sites
To manually add Stanford sites to the Intranet Zone do the following:
- Go to the Tools menu in Internet Explorer and choose Internet Options.

- Click on the Security tab at the top of the windows and then on the Local intranet icon. If the security level is anything other than Medium-Low click the Default
Level button. It should now be set an Medium-Low.

- Click the Sites... button. A window named Local Internet
will open up. Click the Advanced... button.

- Within the Local intranet window move to the "Add
this Web Site to this Zone" field and enter: *.stanford.edu

- Click Add. The entry you made should now appear in your list of Web Sites.

- Click OK in the open windows to close them and save your settings. Internet
Explorer is now configured to allow popup windows from Stanford sites.
