Spires Session Installer for Samson

Description

The Spires Session Installer for Samson is for use with Samson for Windows 5.1 on Windows XP or 2000. It can be used to open a Samson session on the Spires computer, the host UNIX machine that will run SPIRES, Prism, and other legacy applications from the Forsythe mainframe.

System Requirements

  • Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP or 2000
  • Download file size: 306 KB
  • Samson for Windows 5.1 must be installed
  • PC-Leland 2.0 or higher must be installed (for authenticating to most Stanford host computers)

Notes

To use the installer, double-click the SpiresSession.exe icon.

  • The installer places a small file called spires.stanford.edu inside the "Samson Sessions" folder. It is then available as a session that can be selected from the Connect command.

  • When the session is selected, your PC will present you with the PC-Leland network login dialog box (if you are not already logged in), open a session window, establish a connection to the Spires computer, and either put you in General Access Prism (most users will see that) or log you into the machine as a Unix user if your SUNet ID matches a custom Unix account created for you on the Spires machine.
