Introduction

The last 50 years have been "productive" ones for the cigarette industry. Currently, the industry manufactures over six trillion cancer sticks per year worldwide, a three-fold jump in what it was producing annually back in the 1960s. Where is this growing torrent of manufacturing occurring today? The Cigarette Citadels project explores that question and others about the global tobacco industry. Our goal is to locate all factories producing cigarettes worldwide and expose information about their practices.
