The First Soak

Taiko heads are made from raw cow hide.

The first part of the skinning process involves forming the drum heads. In this step, the skin is softened in order to cut it.

  • Soak the skin in a tub (or bathtub) for 3 days. Change the water daily.
  • Keep the entire skin immersed in the water using a weight (like a bucket filled with water).
